José María Piñar

CEO

José María Piñar is the CEO of Elmya, where he joined in 2004 as an intern in the Business Development department. Twenty years later, he leads the company alongside his brother Carlos, achieving recognition for Elmya as a leading EPC developer and contractor, characterized by its commitment to innovation and quality in all its projects. In addition to his work at Elmya, he has founded and directed several development companies, as well as an energy services company (ESCO), which are now part of the Elmya ecosystem. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from Alfonso X El Sabio University, a master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Vienna University of Technology, an EMBA from San Telmo Business School, and a postgraduate degree from Harvard Business School.

Carlos Piñar

Managing Director

Carlos Piñar Celestino is the Managing Director of Elmya, with over 13 years of experience in the renewable energy sector. Throughout his career, he has held key positions within the company, such as HR Director and Corporate Director, contributing to the creation and development of Elmya’s corporate areas. In 2019, he took on the role of General Director of Elmya Energy, leading the creation and expansion of the project development area within the company. Since April 2024, he has been the General Director of Elmya, with a mission to implement the company’s strategy while supporting the executives in both the corporate areas and Elmya Energy. Carlos holds a degree in Business Administration and Management and an Executive MBA (EMBA) from IESE Business School.

Gerardo Rodríguez has been the General Director of Elmya EPC since January 2023. He joined Elmya in February 2019 as Operations Director after spending 12 years in management positions at the Andalusian multinational Abengoa. He holds an engineering degree from the University of the Republic in Uruguay, an MBA from ESADE in Spain, and a master’s degree from London Business School in the United Kingdom.

Gonzalo de Rojas

Managing Director de Elmya Energy

Gonzalo de Rojas has held the position of General Director of Elmya Energy since April 2024. He brings with him extensive experience of over 16 years in the renewable energy sector, focusing on the development of photovoltaic solar projects and storage. His experience spans various countries, from Spain to Argentina, including Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Romania, France, Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Throughout his career, he has driven nearly 200 projects that collectively amount to over 3GW of installed capacity. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Seville.

Gonzalo Sánchez del Río

General Director Elmya Iberia

Gonzalo Sánchez del Río holds the position of General Director at Elmya Instalaciones. From 2003 to 2012, he worked in various responsible positions. At Ibersilva, part of the ENCE business group, he managed civil and environmental works. From 2013 until his joining Elmya, he developed commercial and growth strategies in different companies within the energy, renewable, environmental, and retail sectors. He holds a Technical Engineering degree from the University of Seville and a Higher Agricultural Engineering degree from the University of Almería. He also has a degree in Commercial Management from ESADE and is a Project Management Professional (PMP) certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Ignacio Lojendio

Director of Finance

Ignacio Lojendio Camilleri has been Director of Finance at Elmya since April 2018. With more than 16 years of professional experience, he started his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young and, throughout his career, has held various positions of responsibility, both nationally and internationally, most of them, in construction companies in the renewable energy sector. 

At Elmya, his main responsibilities include overseeing group-wide accounting and ensuring efficient financing for the activities carried out by the company’s different business lines.

Ignacio holds a degree in Law and Business Administration and has been a student of the San Telmo International Institute in different training programs.

Antonio Moreno

Director of Technical

Antonio Moreno has been Elmya’s director of technical since 2022. Since joining Elmya in 2014, he has held other positions in the bidding and engineering departments.

Previously he has developed his work in building and infrastructure companies, holding the positions of director of tenders and contracting, having led the achievement of contracts with public administrations such as the Ministry of Education and the Pablo de Olavide University, and the expansion into new markets such as Peru and South Africa.

He is the technical head of the company’s three divisions, EPC, Development and Facilities, and is in charge of managing the engineering teams. The expansion to markets such as Argentina, Mexico, Italy, UK and Portugal, and the work for clients such as Iberdrola, Enel and Naturgy, are his main achievements in the engineering field.

He is an industrial engineer with a master’s degree in thermal energy systems from the University of Seville, and number one in the 2013-14 class of the Executive MBA of the Chamber of Commerce of Seville.

Marta Fontana

Head of Legal Department

Marta Fontana has held the position of Head of Legal Department at Elmya since September 2023. She has extensive experience in corporate legal advice, international contracting, M&A and board secretarial services, having led the legal department of other companies in the energy sector. She has also participated in the legal management of numerous civil and corporate proceedings, specializing in contractual and non-contractual litigation, disputes related to energy commercialization, renewables and competition law.

She holds a degree in Law from the University of Seville and has completed university expert courses in Compliance and Data Protection.

María Morales Gómez

Director of People and Communication

María Morales Gómez has been Director of People and Communication at Elmya since January 2020. With more than 18 years of experience in the industry, she has worked in national and international companies, holding several key positions such as Head of Recruitment, HR Coordinator, Head of Compensation and Benefits, and HR Business Partner.

In her current role, she leads the People and Communication department, promoting initiatives to attract and retain Elmya’s greatest asset: its human team.

María has a degree in Psychology, with a specialization in Organizational Psychology, and has completed a Management Development Program at the San Telmo Business School.

Carlos-Guzman

Carlos Guzmán

Director of Renewables USA

Carlos is an executive with over 20 years of experience in EPC projects across the renewable energy, conventional energy, Oil & Gas, and biofuels sectors. He began his career at Abengoa in the operations area of energy and biofuels. Subsequently, he took on the role of Project Manager for renewable energy projects in Spain and conventional energy projects in Israel. His international career continued in 2018 in the Oil & Gas sector in Kazakhstan before joining Elmya in 2020. At Elmya, he led photovoltaic projects as a Project Manager and later as Portfolio Manager, managing client portfolios. Since January 2025, Carlos has been the Director of Renewables in the USA and President of EMC Renewables, the subsidiary through which Elmya manages its EPC business in the country. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Higher School of Engineers of Seville and has completed an Executive Development Program (PDD) at IESE Business School.

Santiago-Lopez

Santiago López

Director of Renewables Europe

Santiago López Pérez, Director of Renewables Europe, has over 19 years of experience in EPC projects in the renewable energy, conventional energy, and biofuels sectors. He worked for more than 15 years at Abengoa, leading EPC projects. In 2012, he began his international career in South Africa, where he executed 200MW in solar thermal plants with molten salt thermal storage. During part of that period, he combined his work in EPC, guarantees, and the O&M of the plant until 2021. In 2021, he joined Elmya EPC as Project Director, overseeing various photovoltaic projects in Ciudad Real, Toledo, and Seville. Subsequently, he took on the management of several client portfolios, utilities, and investment funds in his role as Portfolio Manager and now assumes the position of Director. Santiago studied at the School of Naval Engineering in Cádiz, specializing in Ship Propulsion and Services, and holds an Executive Development Program (PDD) from Loyola University.

Almudena Valverde

Directora de Contratos

Almudena Valverde Villegas ocupa el puesto de Responsable del Departamento Contractual en Elmya EPC desde junio de 2023, siendo la principal responsable de velar y gestionar los riesgos asociados a los proyectos durante el ciclo de vida de los contratos, tanto con clientes como con subcontratistas.

Posee una amplia experiencia profesional de más de 20 años en el sector de las energías renovables, habiendo participado en grandes proyectos internacionales tanto para clientes públicos como privados, asumiendo roles que van desde las fases de licitación, pasando por las fases de ejecución como fases de resolución de disputas.

Es licenciada en Ingeniería Química por la Universidad de Granada.

Angel Gonzalez

Ángel González

Procurement Director

Ángel González has held the position of Director of the Procurement Department at Elmya EPC for more than 10 years. In 1987 he started in the company as a Bid Technician. A couple of years later, he began to combine this position with the company’s purchasing, being responsible for both areas for approximately twenty years. Later he became Head of Purchasing, and currently, Purchasing Director of the company.

He began his professional career doing projects and construction management of electrical installations, then worked in two companies of low and medium voltage electrical assemblies. He studied Industrial Technical Engineering, specializing in Power Plants and Networks at the E.U.I.T.I. of Badajoz.

Maria Montero

María Montero de Espinosa Gómez

Director of Proposals

María Montero de Espinosa Gómez has held the position of Director or Proposals at Elmya EPC since October 2020. From 2005 to 2020 she worked in a leading multinational company in sectors such as infrastructure and energy, with milestones such as the contracting of the Mecca-Medina Railway.

Within Elmya EPC she is in charge of the international contracting of the company, leading a team of engineers with high experience in the photovoltaic and infrastructure world.

María holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Extremadura, and a master’s degree in Programme of Leadership Development from Loyola-ESADE.

Enrique

Enrique Gahete

EPC Business Development Director

Enrique Gahete Cárdeno is Business Development Director at Elmya EPC since December 2017. He has 16 years of experience in the renewable energy sector at international level (more than 4 GW of projects), developing functions such as Construction Project Manager, Greenfield Project Development, Innovation Director and EPC Business Development.

He currently heads the Business Development Department at Elmya EPC from where he continues to meet the company’s growth objectives. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering (Industrial Organization Specialty) from the University of Seville.

Isabel Torres Valdavida

Head of the PMO

Isabel Torres Valdavida holds the position of Deputy to the General Manager, as well as Head of Planning & Expediting at Elmya EPC since 2022.

Throughout her career in the company, she has held other key positions such as Project Management, both in Spain and Portugal, as well as Project Coordination, leading the creation, standardization and optimization of work methodologies at Elmya EPC.

Isabel has a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oviedo, with more than 12 years of experience in the renewable energy sector.

Jorge

Jorge Rodríguez Jurado

IT Director

Jorge Rodríguez Jurado has held the position of IT Director at Elmya since July 2019.  From 2006 to 2014 he worked in the mining sector with the position of IT Manager, in 2015 in the systems solutions department and from 2016 to June 2019 as responsible for management systems in the renewable sector (Navision 2009 and IBM Maximo implementation, SAP S/4 HANA and SAP Successfactors implementation, Navision 2017 implementation…).

He is a Technical Engineer in management systems by the “UOC”. He has completed a Management Development Program at San Telmo Business School and an Executive Program Big Data & Business Analytics at EOI.

Hernán Arredondo

QA Director

Hernán Arredondo holds the position of QA Director at Elmya S.A since November 2019.  He has been leading the development, implementation and improvement of Quality Management Systems in companies dedicated to EPC projects of conventional and renewable energies for more than 13 years. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the National University of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Rafael Nuñe

Rafael Núñez

HSE Director

Rafael Núñez López holds the position of Director of Safety, Health and Environment in Elmya since September 2020, with the aim of improving the working environment and environmental management in our worksites and work centers.  Since 2005 he worked in the area of Health and Safety with positions of responsibility in several companies, mainly in the industrial construction sector, at a national and international level.

He has worked in the construction of solar thermal plants, photovoltaic plants, desalination plants, tunnels, etc., traveling through different countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. He was expatriated for almost two years in Israel. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Seville and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention, specializing in Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Psychosociology and Industrial Hygiene.

Juan Manuel Asencio

Director Cost Control

Juan Manuel Asencio has held the position of Head of Corporate Economic Control at Elmya since March 2021.

With extensive professional experience in the renewable sector, he currently performs the functions of Head of Economic Control, directing the activity of a team of cost engineers, whose ultimate purpose is to establish at all times an accurate estimate of the cost at the end of work and the amount of the contract at the end of the project, among other functions.

He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering (Mechanical Specialty) from ESI in Seville and has a Course in International Negotiation (CMI International Group).

Miguel Ángel Maseras

Director of T&D at Elmya

Miguel Ángel Maseras Gutiérrez is since January 2025, Director of T&D at Elmya. With more than twenty-five years of experience, he began his professional career in Inabensa, a subsidiary of the multinational Abengoa, in 1998, where he held various positions of responsibility always associated with the activity of Substations and High Voltage Power Lines, both in Spain and later making the leap to projects of greater scope abroad.

In his last stage, he has participated in the launching and consolidation of the High Voltage activity in Lantania.

Miguel Ángel holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Seville. He holds a Master of Science (Research) from the University of Sheffield and an Executive MBA from the EOI in Seville.

Javier

Javier Martínez Sánchez

Director of Services

Javier Martinez is the Director of Services at Elmya EPC since September 2021. He has more than 18 years of experience in management, operation and maintenance in power generation assets. Since his incorporation he has successfully led the growth of the department, managing almost 1 GW of plants between O&M and warranty management.   From 2011 to 2021 he was in charge of the Monitoring Department and Technical Support Center of more than 3GW in Mexico and during this stage he led the digital transformation at international level implementing different digital technologies for the optimization of the production and performance of the plants.

James Innes

Development Manager United Kingdom

James Innes joined Elmya Energy in the UK in February 2024, bringing with him a wealth of professional experience and over 29 years in the energy sector, including 19 years in the onshore renewable energy sector in the UK market. 

He is a chartered mechanical engineer with an MBA and verifiable experience in international renewable energy organizations. He has successfully developed large scale wind and solar PV projects, from greenfield to ready to build (RTB) projects, including supporting projects to reach financial close, notice to proceed (NTP) and supporting EPC teams to reach commercial operation date (CoD).

Vasilis Bizios

Development Manager Greece

Vasilis is Head of Project Development Greece since June 2022. As Country Manager he is dedicated to business development at Elmya Energy in Greece, as well as to the management of the local team.

He has more than twelve years of experience in New Energy Technologies and has specialized in techno-economic analysis, licensing, design, project development and integrated management of renewable energy projects. Skills and experience acquired through the development of a wide range of biogas, biomass to hydrogen, hydropower, wind, waste to energy, BESS and PV projects.

Vasilis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management and a Master’s degree in Ecoengineering.
