Elmya drives a new project in the United Kingdom integrating solar generation and storage at a single site

Elmya has started a new project in Kinglassie (Scotland, United Kingdom): a 30 MWp photovoltaic plant incorporating a 20 MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). This is the first project developed by Elmya Energy and constructed by Elmya EPC in the United Kingdom, marking a historic milestone in the company’s track record in this market. It is also a sophisticated project combining solar generation and storage co-located, the result of the coordinated work of both divisions.

With this project, Elmya strengthens its presence in the United Kingdom, one of its strategic markets, where it has been operating for more than 15 years and has built a strong reputation as a developer and EPC contractor specialising in photovoltaic projects and high-voltage works.

The scope of the project includes the execution of PV Full EPC Lite, the BESS balance of system (BOS), and the interconnection works as an accredited Independent Connection Provider (ICP). In this context, Elmya will be responsible for the interconnection between the customer substation and the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) switching station, as well as for the construction of the substation building, including civil works and the installation of non-primary equipment.

These works will be carried out in close coordination with the distribution network operator Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), in strict compliance with its technical specifications and applicable regulatory requirements.

This first asset in Scotland reinforces Elmya’s capabilities in hybrid PV + BESS solutions, a model that is increasingly in demand among operators and developers as it enables more flexible energy management and improved grid integration. The project also demonstrates the company’s expertise in the technical integration, operation and grid coordination of complex assets at a single point of connection, combining generation and storage.

With this new milestone, Elmya consolidates its position in the United Kingdom as a leading player in the delivery of photovoltaic, storage and high-voltage interconnection projects, and further strengthens its role in the transition towards a more flexible and efficient energy system.

“This project in Kinglassie represents a highly significant strategic step for Elmya in the United Kingdom. It is not only our first hybrid asset in this market developed by Elmya Energy and built by Elmya EPC, but also a clear reflection of the technical strength, integration capability and professionalism of our teams. The combination of photovoltaic generation and energy storage at a single grid connection point demonstrates our expertise in delivering complex energy solutions and our ability to operate under the highest technical and regulatory standards. We will continue to strengthen our position as a trusted partner in the transition towards a more flexible, efficient and sustainable energy system.”
